Huskies perform outstandingly well at annual academic decathlon

On Saturday, January 21st the Chapin Academic Decathlon (AcaDec) team competed against schools in the surrounding El Paso region. These members of the AcaDec team compete individually in various, demanding subjects but are considered in the end as one husky pack.

Some of the included categories in AcaDec are mathematics, economics, art, music, language, science, and speech etc. The awards consist of gold, silver, bronze, 4th, and 5th, and participation.

Chapin’s AcaDec team made Chapin extremely proud to call them our own with their outstanding performance during the annual Academic Decathlon.

The Acadec program here at Chapin has grown to be one of the top ten in the city of El Paso.

Unfortunately, Chapin High School did not make it to state, but did come incredibly close. Chapin High School is home to many awardees and is home to one student who gave an outstanding performance.

Sophie Phelps,11, received 6 medals and was judged as the top performer in her division in the entire city. Her medals included a silver in art, a silver in essay, a gold in speech, a gold in literature, a gold top performer in her division for Chapin, and a gold top performer in her division for the entire city. Chapin High School is incredibly proud in calling Sophie Phelps one of our own huskies.

Our other award-winning huskies are Mallory Cates who medaled a bronze in math and a bronze in science. Daniel Arizpe medaled a gold top performer in his division for Chapin, a bronze in social studies, and a bronze in math. Our last medaling husky is Gabriel Brambilla who medaled a bronze in economics and a gold top performer in his division for Chapin.

All members of the AcaDec team make Chapin proud to call them huskies.
